Bristol Harbour selected to participate in green lodging program
Under the program, properties will be certified and rated based on various environmental practices. The primary focus will be on saving energy, minimizing waste disposal, and overall conservation, all while maximizing profit.
“We are honored to be accepted into the Green Hotel pilot program,” said Lynne Stewart, Director of Sales and Marketing at Bristol Harbour Resort. “We believe it is important to understand and minimize environmental impact and this program will put us on the forefront of environmentally-friendly lodging properties.”
For being selected into the Green Hotel Certification pilot program, Bristol Harbour will receive benefits including recognition for being an environmental leader, third-party credible verification by Audubon International/Green-Leaf, easy identification as an environmentally-friendly hotel for travelers and information, tools and advice to reduce operating costs.
Bristol Harbour will also receive assistance from the NYS Pollution Prevention Institute to analyze and improve their environmental performance.
“This is really an important moment for Bristol Harbour, as well as for tourism and travel in general in Ontario County,” said AJ Shear, Communications Manager at Finger Lakes Visitors Connection. “There are people who will only stay in properties that they feel meet stringent environmental standards, and Bristol Harbour is positioning itself to be one of those properties. It is really significant to have an Ontario County property be a part of this program.”
The program is part of the Gov. Paterson’s Green Hospitality & Tourism Initiative partnership of organizations being led by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and includes: NYS Hospitality and Tourism Association, NYS Restaurant Association, I Love NY, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, NYS Department of Labor, NYS Office of Parks & Recreation, NYS Energy Research & Development Authority, and NYS Pollution Prevention Institute.
